PM Prachanda Emphasizes Development of Lumbini as a Global Peace and Spiritual Tourism Destination

Lumbini: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' affirmed the government's commitment to promoting Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, as a global destination for peace and spiritual tourism. Speaking at an event organized by the 2568th Buddha Jayanti and Lumbini Day Main Ceremony Organizing Committee, PM Dahal highlighted ongoing efforts to develop Lumbini into a significant religious site for millions of Buddhists and general visitors worldwide.

PM Dahal noted that a proposal for the Greater Lumbini Development Project was presented at Nepal's third investment summit, inviting foreign investment to enhance the site's appeal. He expressed confidence that this would boost global recognition of Gautam Buddha and Nepal's role in world peace, drawing Buddhist pilgrims from around the globe.

"It is a matter of pride for every citizen of the world to visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha," emphasized the Prime Minister. He described Lumbini as a potential global hub for Buddhist philosophy and education, and envisioned high tourism success for Lumbini and Nepal.

Highlighting the significance of Buddha's teachings for peace, unity, and harmony, PM Dahal underscored that Buddha's birth has not only fostered religious tourism but also enhanced Nepal's global reputation. He referred to the Ashoka Pillar inscriptions in Lumbini as evidence of Buddha's birthplace being in Nepal and stressed the government's commitment to rapid development of Lumbini as a symbol of humanity and a world heritage site.

The Prime Minister detailed the government's focus on archaeological explorations and the protection, promotion, and development of Kapilvastu, Devdaha, and Ramgrama with international support. He emphasized the importance of successfully implementing the Greater Lumbini Development Project and directed the Lumbini Development Trust to advance these efforts.

"Lumbini is not just the birthplace of Buddha, but also the origin of Buddhism," declared PM Dahal. He instructed Lumbini Buddhist University to prioritize the promotion of Buddhist philosophy and recalled the successful hosting of the Second World Buddhist Summit in 2004. He announced plans for Nepal to host the Third World Buddhist Summit, reinforcing Nepal's dedication to fostering Buddhist heritage and philosophy.
